Hi there. I’m responding to the invitation in the Encanto Clinic news letter to share favorite stories of our pets and hope to have one published. Here are a few of my favorites, along with pictures.
Mickey Wee Beastie is a Boston Terrier. When Mickey was about three months old, he was so adorable, as always. We were playing in the backyard, it was summer, and he found a really large Mesquite beetle. These beetles are HUGE! and have pincers and big legs and hard bodies. I was afraid of the beetle, but I was curious about what Mickey would think about it. He stood in front of it, stared at it, then in a split second he spun around, raced into the house, returned with his favorite red ball, and put it in front of the beetle, and just stood there wagging his whole body like crazy….I just about died laughing, but that’s not all….when the beetle started to walk away, Mickey didn’t give up, he just rolled the ball along with the beetle hoping eventually he would have a game going. It is now five years later and he remains as optimistic and joyful as he was then.
Last July, he saw lightning for the first time. We were outside sitting watching the rain when a huge lightning bolt filled the sky visible at the top of a large bush by the fence. I thought he would be afraid of the thunder and lightning, but, NOT, he ran out in the backyard and jumped as high at the bush as he could trying to catch the lightning!!!!!
I’m sending pictures, one of Mickey as a pup, one of him as a grown-up, and one of his little “sister”, Molly Mae, falling in love with a stuffed toy Boston Terrier sitting on the sofa. Thanks for letting me send a few of my stories.
