Dr. Michael Lent is a 1991 graduate of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. After practicing in Indianapolis for 5 years, he moved to Tucson, where he and Dr. Jack Quick owned and operated Pantano Animal Clinic for 20 years. He now serves as Medical Director at both Pantano Animal Clinic and Encanto Pet Clinic.
Dr. Lent is a past president of both the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association and the Southern Arizona Veterinary Medical Association and served five years as a Board Member on the Arizona State Veterinary Medical Examining Board. He was recognized as 2001 Young Veterinarian of the Year and 2016 Veterinarian of the Year by the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Lent is one of the charter members of the Animal Cruelty Task Force of Southern Arizona. founded in 1998. And he served on the board of directors of the Humane Society of Southern Arizona for three years.
He has done charity veterinary work in Nicaragua with World Vets and done veterinary work for the Indian Health Service and AZ Dept. of Health on the White Mountain Apache land. He currently serves as one of two Arizona delegates to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Co-chair of the Advisory Board of the National Association for Black Veterinarians (NABV).
He is married to Stacey Lent DVM, Dipl. ACVIM—also a veterinarian–who is board-certified in veterinary internal medicine. They have two adult sons, a horse, many Pygmy goats, chickens, three rescue dogs, and a cat. He enjoys laser surgery, dentistry, behavior, as well as talking to clients about just about anything. He considers his clients and the people he is privileged to work with as part of his family and believes in working hard and having fun.
Dr. Aaron Ortiz is a 2024 graduate from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. During her clinical years, Dr. Ortiz excelled in and deeply enjoyed surgery, preventative, and internal medicine. She is a passionate, dedicated, and empathetic doctor that chose a career in veterinary medicine because she strives to help animals and make sure their owners feel heard.
Dr. Ortiz is originally from Tempe, Arizona but made the best decision to spend 4 wonderful years in Tucson for her undergraduate. Here, she fell in love with Sonoran dogs, Sabino Canyon, and cheering for the University of Arizona (win or lose). In Stillwater, Oklahoma Dr. Ortiz came to find that she enjoys spending time with horses and the charm of the Midwest. Though she made many friends and memories in Oklahoma, she is happy to be back in the desert.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Ortiz enjoys meeting with the U of A American Sign Language Club, volunteering at the Reid Park Zoo, and reading Tana French mystery books. She is also an avid green thumb and would enjoy any conversation on plants. At home, she is dedicated to her partner Sam, who is a Dietitian (for humans!) at Banner Health, and her 9-year-old dog Jojo.
Dr. Ortiz is excited for the privilege to work in the Tucson community and become a staple member. She will join the Encanto Pet Clinic team in June 2024! She cannot wait to bring care to your furry family members and hear about your life in Tucson. Go Pokes and Bear Down!
